PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Information System for Recording and Reporting Drug Shortages

The Information System for Recording and Reporting Drug Shortages was developed in collaboration with the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association (PPA) to address the growing need for timely and accurate tracking of medicine shortages across Greece. This digital platform streamlines communication and coordination among regional Pharmaceutical Associations and national authorities.

The purpose of the Information System (IS) is:

  • To allow PPA members throughout Greeceโ€”specifically regional Pharmaceutical Associationsโ€”to easily declare shortages of human-use medicines, based on real-time data collected from pharmacies in their jurisdiction.

  • To provide tools for monitoring the progression and frequency of shortages in each region over time and enable comparison with national-level trends and data.

  • To automate the collection, analysis, and generation of reports summarizing drug shortages nationwide, with scheduled submissions to the National Organization for Medicines (EOF) and the relevant Pharmaceutical Associations.

By improving transparency, data consistency, and reporting efficiency, this system supports better decision-making and faster response to supply chain issues, ensuring continued access to essential medicines for the public.
